A recent entrant to the heavyweight division, Adamek (40-1, 27) wasn't known as a big puncher as a light heavyweight or cruiserweight, nor should he be expected to drop bombs in the Citizen's Business Bank ring on April 24. His goal will more likely be to present the hard-punching, 6' 4", 250 pound Arreola ( 28-1, 25) with a moving target for twelve enervating rounds.
Arreola, 28, is an impressive volume puncher in his own right, especially for a man of his size. The difference in the two men is in the way they produce their volume. For Adamek, 33, lateral movement provides the simultaneous benefits of preventing opponents from mounting an offense while providing openings for his own punches. This has been especially evident since his step up to the heavyweight division. Although his two heavyweight opponents thus far, Andrew Golota and Jason Estrada, respectively, were hardly Muhammad Ali clones.
In contrast, Arreola can punch in volume because he fights flat-footed, providing a solid platform from which to turn loose combinations that many top heavyweights can only dream of. Despite his size, Arreola's knockouts do not come from thudding power, but incessant delivery. However the punches come, they can be expected to come in sheets if Arreola can corner Adamek.
Chris Arreola Quotes
"I'm excited about bringing a can't miss "Fight of the Year" to Citizen's Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. I'm really looking forward to performing in front of my home crowd" said Arreola to the gathered press. Ontario is only a 30 minute drive from the Fourteenth Street Gym in Riverside, where Arreola learned to box and, until his recent success, did most of his training. "The first time I fought here (the CBBA) it was a great environment. It's close to home so I can't be late."
Adamek, a 6'1", 215 pound native of Poland who currently lives in Newark, New Jersey, claims to relish the chance to meet Arreola on his home turf.
